A couple of SGP takeaways...

If you love your curry as much as the members of the OCC then no doubt you have missed being able to frequent your favourite Indian establishments during Circuit Breaker, and maybe you are still unsure about visiting while the current restrictions remain in place…Well fear not as your trusted OCC have compiled a short review of a few of the restaurants that we have ordered takeaway from over the past few months. We hope this will help inform your decisions when looking for a tasty takeaway option. In the meantime, we the OCC will continue to go about our task of seeking out the crispiest poppadum’s, tastiest sauces and spiciest curries Singapore has to offer. Samy’s Curry: Dempsey

Extremely easy to order either by telephone (64722080 or 92324320) or website (samyscurry.oddle.me)

Samy’s offer island wide delivery for a 10 SGD surcharge and I was also able to pre-order for delivery later that evening. Food arrived warm still and well packaged. I ordered poppadum’s and a selection of gravy. I was delighted with the large bag of poppadum’s I received. Crispy and delicious! I ordered A LOT of food as this was for research purposes. Most notable was a very tasty Butter chicken and the Masala chicken (which can be ordered per piece). The Biriyani rice was also very tasty and came with 2 side dishes of vegetables which was particularly good value. Pricing is very reasonable, a large butter chicken (large enough to share) is 14 dollars and the biriyani rice was SGD 4.50. A very good curry which I would order again. OCC!

Dehli6: East Coast Road: (OCC recommended)

Easy to order by telephone. Available island wide through Grab Food (Not Deliveroo)

Not sure if there was a surcharge but you will pay more than being in the restaurant. I live in CBD so for me, it was worth the extra and I was excited to receive the food which arrived with some delay. I think about 30 minutes. So, I would order with the assumption that you want the curry with about that level of delay in mind. Dehli6 has in my opinion the best Fish Tika in Singapore and I am happy to report that it travelled very well, the lime and onion combo make it. As did the Broccoli which is good news as it has a particular sauce and if it was overcooked, you can imagine it being soggy. But it was pretty perfect. I did find the Dal Makhani pretty bland and disappointing. The butter chicken was also a little sweeter than it needed to be and lacked personality. Pricing was reasonable and I love the joint so would 100% order again. OCC!

Tandoori Corner: Bellastier Road: (OCC recommended)

Great to chat on the phone and was a pleasure placing my order.

As the delivery approached my condo again I had a good phone chat with the boss man to establish where I live. I pop down and pay using a QR code with some OCC chat thrown in.

Well-presented and all in order on arrival.

-Thanks for the extra poppadum’s.

-Super lamb chops! Had rested over the travel time and were spot on when they arrived.

-Onion bhaji’s are crispy nuggets of joy with a top sweet and sour tamarind dip. Heated up in the oven the following day they were just as good if not better.

-Dahl makani was very good; creamy, smoky and delicious.

-Fish curry; tasty but could do with more heat.

-Ok bhindi massalla, balanced enough.

-Not sure on the peshwari naan, looked like pizza but tasted like jam on toast.

-Moorish byriani rice served in an authentic brown paper wrap up, dreamy!

As I ordered lamb chops, not the best value, but a good takeaway overall and arrived before the time they said by a bloke who worked at the restaurant. OCC!

Flying Monkey: Bussorah Street: (OCC recommended)

Offers island wide delivery but the delivery cost depends on how far you are from the restaurant itself which is located in Kampong Glam. Having eaten there previously and thoroughly enjoyed it I was looking forward to seeing how well the food travelled for home consumption. I ordered earlier in the day to make sure the food arrived on time which it did. Strangely it was delivered in two batches as the original driver forgot something. However, the restaurant called me to explain and apologise. No problem and appreciate the good customer care.

The food arrived and with a personalised message on the bag which was a nice touch and was well packaged. I ordered the Vada Pav, Butter Chicken, Saag Paneer (V), Samosa, Plain Rice and Mint Yogurt to share with the wife. All in it came to a little under $100 inc. delivery. This was enough for both of us with a little left over for the following day.

As expected, the food was well prepared, cooked and very tasty across the board. The vada pav was a great way to start the meal. The Saag Paneer is different to usual as it's less saucy than most, but I like that personally. My one gripe is that while the sauce was excellent there was very little meat in the butter chicken, and I felt short changed given that it was $23 for that dish.

Overall, it was a decent takeaway curry. However, I would recommend visiting the restaurant itself if you can as they have great beer and impeccable service. OCC!

Anglo-Indian: Shenton Way

Anglo Indian Cafe & Bar, Shenton Way, prides itself as an award-winning culinary adventure. However, despite their many accolades, the OCC sticker of approval is sadly missing from their trophy cabinet.

Despite being underwhelmed when dining in at the restaurant, the OCC are pleased to confirm a much more enjoyable experience for their lockdown takeaway.

Playing to their strengths a textbook Anglo order was placed, including many staples of the British diet. The Onion Bhaji was a good-sized portion, circular form and moist throughout.

The Chicken Jalfrezi had an appealing kick whilst the Lamb Rogan Josh deserves a special call out for the quality of protein (which can often be overly fatty) which was found to be sufficiently succulent. Finished off with a Yellow Daal, rice, plus butter & garlic Naan.

Food arrived promptly via GrabFood and made even the more palatable with a generous 20% reduction for lockdown delivery. The OCC is pleased to recommend the Anglo Indian - Shenton Way takeaway. OCC!
