OCC Visit Review: Dilchad, Liverpool Street
Status: Approved
Overall Score: 7.15 / 10
The Oakham Curry Club (OCC) ventured down Widegate Street to sample the culinary offerings at Dilchad, a venue boasting decades of history just a stone's throw from London’s Liverpool Street Station.
Four members assembled to put Dilchad through the standard OCC evaluation process, scoring across five core categories: Customer Care, Service, Value, Quality, and Atmosphere.
The Breakdown
Customer Care: 7.13 / 10 The hospitality was steady throughout the evening. While nothing extraordinary, the welcome was warm enough to set a decent baseline for the meal.
Service: 7.50 / 10 Service proved to be the highest-scoring category of the night. The staff maintained a good pace, kept drinks flowing, and managed our table efficiently without being overly intrusive.
Value: 7.13 / 10 Fairly priced for central London, given the prime City location. Portions were generous enough to ensure no one left hungry.
Quality: 7.25 / 10 A solid performance on the food front. Highlights included a well-spiced Bhuna, flavorful garlic prawns, and generous mushroom chunks in the rice. However, a slight lack of consistency kept the food score from breaking into the high 7s, with one order falling flat on execution.
Atmosphere: 6.75 / 10 A relatively quiet night meant the ambient buzz was a bit muted. While a decent spot for a low-key group gathering or post-work pint, the room lacked a bit of energy.
Member Highlights
"Tasty with great portion sizes. Not many people there, but quite a cool place. Solid spot if you want a curry near Liverpool Street."
"OCC: My Bhuna was very good—just the right mix of spice. A great meeting with the four of us, setting a new minimum threshold for the group."
"Solid 7 for me. Nice couple of pints beforehand. Food was consistent overall—the garlic prawns were flavored well and the lamb curry was nice."
Verdict
Dilchad delivers a dependable, classic curry house experience in East London. While it may not reach the heights of top-tier OCC destinations due to minor culinary inconsistencies and a quieter atmosphere, its strong service and reliable staples make it a respectable option in the Liverpool Street area.
With an average total score of 7.15, Dilchad comfortably earns its Approved status on the OCC register.
