Jiva’s Cuisine is OCC recommended

Our experience with Jiva’s Cuisine provided another first for the original chapter of the OCC. A private dining experience in a top-secret location, somewhere in Peterborough or its surrounding villages.

Boasting the experience from 3 generations of cooks from across 3 continents, Jiva’s Cuisine ijust may be the very definition of home cooked hearty and freshly cooked authentic and artisan Indian food.

Hira and Jiva were our hosts for the evening, and it was immediately clear to us that a real family effort had gone into preparing our banquet long before they arrived at our secret location. Dressed in traditional Indian clothes Hira was the perfect host, introducing each dish with passion and pride, guiding us through the varied menu whilst Jiva provided the finishing touches to our feast

To start the meal, we were served Samosa Chaat with a delicious, tangy, yet spicy tamarind and cooling yoghourt. This proved to be the perfect set up for our starters – Three types of samosas (vegetable, chicken and lamb), a meat sizzler and a seafood sizzler. Each dish was perfectly flavored and consumed by the OCC brethren with a big knowing grin.

The next course consisted of their delicious stuffed bullet chillies, stuffed aubergines with new potatoes and their signature dish – the boiler chicken. Whilst the sauce was a little oilier than many of us were used to, we asked for authentic and they gave us authentic – a lovingly cooked dish served just the way it would be at home. The flavor was punchy and I loved every mouthful of it!

Just when we thought that we could take no more – we realised that the main course was still to come! A selection of roti breads, tri-coloured pilau rice – and for me, the star of the evening; layered lamb biryani infused with rose water and saffron

The evening was finished off with traditional Indian desserts, a hot mohanthal with saffron and cardamom infused with double cream, and a hot semolina halwa with vanilla ice cream. Not everyone had room for this, and to some it was not quite to their taste– but without a doubt it provided a fitting closure to a wonderful evening.

Jiva’s Cuisine doesn't own a restaurant – but if they did, it would for sure be a contender for our CHOTY. They can cater for large banquets and also for smaller dinner parties. They come highly recommended by the OCC, and we would like to extend our thanks for their hospitality and sensational food. We loved it – and you should really try their cooking when you get the chance.
